Hock Support

The hock joint of a dog is located in the hind leg analogous to a human’s ankle joint. Dogs are considered digitigrade animals, meaning they stand on their toes and tarsus (ankle region) elevated. The hock should maintain a slight angle. Taituki’s hock support is designed to preserve the correct hock position, preventing excessive extension of the hock and providing lateral stabilization to the joint.

Injury to the collateral ligament of the hock can occur when a dog abruptly slows down or trips while walking. This might lead to limping or hock soreness. Certain dog breeds such as chow chow, akita or bernese mountain dog may naturally have hock joints that overextend, and Taituki’s addresses this issue and can assist osteoarthritis. In severe cases of osteoarthritis, surgery might be necessary but Taituki’s hock support can aid in the recovery process.

If it’s an accident but the ligaments are not completely torn and do not require casting or surgery, the Taituki support can be used immediately. The hock support is worn by the dog for 4-8 weeks. If the injury is mild and there is no limping after the initial period, the support can be used for walks. If there is swelling, warmth, and tenderness in the hock, it’s advisable to keep the support on throughout the day. Support usage can be discontinued when there is no tenderness, swelling, or warmth in the joint, and the dog no longer shows signs of limping. If the ligaments have permanently stretched, it’s recommended to use the support for longer walks and during slippery conditions, for example, during inclement weather.

Frictionless and lightweight inner lining

Strong neoprene reinforcement warms up and conforms to the shape of the dog’s leg. Thanks to the soft lining, the support is suitable for postoperative use.

Shaped metal reinforcements

The support maintains its shape due to the bent metal part, providing enough space for the joint. Biomechanically designed range of motion provides the correct joint angle for different situations.

Durable outer layer

Made from highly durable Cordura material.

Easy Velcro fastening
